The Operational Excellence Program Office offers expertise, services, and tools to support ideas that generate new net revenue, reduce costs, and/or improve operations at UC Berkeley. We employ a consultative approach to provide academic and administrative units at UC Berkeley with a menu of services to produce successful outcomes and deliver results. We offer customized services ranging from “a la carte” assistance to full-service support. In addition to our team's knowledge and expertise, we also offer a network of advisors—both on- and off-campus— in fields such as legal/contract issues, market analysis, risk analysis, and real estate.
IDEA DEVELOPMENT
Tapping into our skilled, experienced staff and a network of campus and external specialists, we can help your unit generate, explore, and expedite promising new ideas that generate new net revenue, reduce costs, or improve operations. We can:
- Work with your unit to generate and identify promising ideas
- Serve as a thought partner to help evaluate and strengthen ideas
- Validate ideas with campus and external experts
- Arrange for performance of financial, market, and risk analyses
- Secure access to funding
IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT
We help you to deliver results and successful outcomes for projects that generate new net revenues, reduce costs, or improve operations. With a wealth of campus knowledge, we can assist campus clients to achieve successful project implementation and transition to operations. For example, our team can:
- Provide project resourcing, from project management to project team development, including identifying sponsors, functional owners, and steering committees
- Assist in the development of success metrics and assessment plans
- Develop or review project budgets
- Consult on financial management best practices
- Assess and mitigate project risks
- Consult on organizational development and change management
- Provide strategic communications services or consultation
- Ensure the successful transfer of project results into operations
CAMPUS HUB FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The hallmark of the OE Program Office's project management approach is the strategic integration with change management, which is a critically important discipline that enables the successful delivery of sustainable results. In our capacity as a centralized hub for project management at UC Berkeley, we:
- Serve as a central resource for the campus’ standard project management methodology, tools, and templates
- Promote the use of proven project management practices on campus
- Enhance UC Berkeley’s network of project managers, convening a monthly forum for project managers and change managers to share best practices
- Work with partners across campus to continually improve our tools, templates and methodologies based on lessons learned.
