Energy Management Program Recognized for Innovation

UC Berkeley's Energy Incentive Program has been recognized as an "effective and innovative practice" by a national association of educational facilities management professionals.  

Part of the  Energy Management Program, an Operational Excellence project, the Energy Incentive Program was awarded the 2014 Effective & Innovative Practices Award by APPA, the leading professional asssociation for educational facilities professionals, representing more than 1,300 learning institutions encompassing over 10,000 individuals in NOrth America.

July 24, 2014, Alexandria Va. – APPA is pleased to announce that University of California Berkeley has been awarded the 2014 APPA Effective & Innovative Practices Award for its submission "Providing Financial Incentives to Promote Energy Conservation by Building Occupants".

"The Effective & Innovative Practices Award recognizes new programs or significant restructuring to existing programs that will enhance service delivery, lower costs, increase productivity, improve customer service, generate revenue, or otherwise benefit the educational institution, said David Cain, APPA's Immediate Past Vice President, Professional Affairs, and the chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee.

Submissions are assessed on criteria measuring institutional benefit; innovativeness, creativity and originality; portability and sustainability; management commitment and employee involvement; and documentation, analysis, customer input, and benchmarking.

Projects displaying a high level of innovation and adaptability for implementation at other schools have the best chance of being favorably ranked.

Other 2014 recipients of the Effective and Innovative Practices Award are: Xavier University of Louisiana, University of Pennsylvania, California State University San Bernardino, and Saint Louis University. Each of the five schools are eligible to receive a $4000 cash award sponsored by Sodexo (SDXAY:OTC US).

Award recipients were recognized during the 2014 APPA Annual Conference and 100th Anniversary celebration in San Diego, July 21-23, 2014.
